Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a very serious allergic reaction caused by Lone Star tick bites (other ticks are possible carriers). The specific pathway by which ticks cause this allergy in people is not fully understood.
Chiggers hop onto shoes or clothing and typically explore a host for several hours before choosing a place to feed.
