Tips for Wearing SickTick Bands

Our InsectShield SickTick proprietary treatment is guaranteed through 70 washings, offering all season protection. Since SickTick bands don’t need to be washed, protection life depends on general wear and tear as well as storage. When not in use, store bands out of the sun and moisture to maximize protection longevity.

Deer ticks, also known as black-legged ticks or western black-legged ticks are among numerous species of ticks found in the US. Commonly found in woodland and grassy areas, including gardens and popular picnic and hiking areas, ticks are present from spring through late fall months. Throughout their life cycle, ticks are very small (often smaller than the size of a sesame seed) and are difficult to detect. Tick repellency is becoming more and more important. Most critically, ticks spread Lyme disease, a debilitating condition that is rarely fatal, but which is often confused with the flu in its early stages. According to the CDC, typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.

Identifying and recognizing the risks of ticks is important around homes and in outdoor spaces where we work and recreate.

MyLymeData map of Lyme Disease cases across the US

Did you know that Lyme disease is not considered by the CDC to be endemic in some western and southern states? This has led to a systematic under-reporting of Lyme disease in these areas according to MyLymeData.org. On the map above, the states in blue have a higher number of people enrolled in MyLymeData than are included in total CDC Lyme disease case reports. (In green states, the CDC has more cases.) The important thing to recognize is that Lyme disease is widespread and we must all be vigilant to protect ourselves and our family from this disease.
